Glow-worm has developed the new Smart Wiring Centre, which allows Glow-worm Climastat, Climapro, Climapro RF- or weather compensation - to be used with Ultracom and Flexicom system and open vent boilers.
This means that intelligent room control or weather compensation can now be used with the full range of Ultracom and Flexicom boilers.
Intelligent room control is a simple method of controlling the flow temperature of water to the central heating system based on the temperature measured in the room. As the temperature in the room approaches the desired set point, the boiler lowers the flow temperature of water supplied to the central heating system (radiators).
A lower flow temperature means that the boiler operates more efficiently in, or closer to the condensing mode. Energy costs are reduced and a more stable and comfortable room temperature is achieved.
Weather compensation measures the temperature outside the property and adjusts the flow temperature to the radiators accordingly. The colder the exterior temperature, the hotter the flow temperature, and conversely the warmer the outdoor temperature the cooler the flow temperature will be. The effect is that the flow temperature adjusts the output of the radiator to meet the actual heat demand of the property. The lower flow temperature also ensures that the boiler operates more efficiently.
Glow-worm’s Smart Wiring Centre is designed for use in standard ‘S-plan’ system (2-port motorised valves) or ‘Y-plan’ system (3-port motorized valve) instead of a 10-way wiring centre. There are terminals for one heating zone and one hot water zone with the ebus connection for Glow-worm Climapro and Climastat
The Smart Wiring Centre together with Glow-worm controls creates an intelligent heating system, which allows the system to differentiate between a call for heating and a call for hot water. The system then adjusts the boiler flow temperature accordingly and opens the appropriate zone-valve. In this way either the lower flow temperature is circulated around the central heating system, or the higher flow temperature is directed to the hot water cylinder. If there is a demand for both central heating and hot water, the system runs in hot water priority mode as default.
The Glow-worm Smart Wiring Centre is used instead of the Options Board to provide an intelligent system. However, if simple on/off functionality is required, the Options Board is still available.
Benefits of the Smart Wiring Centre
• Room or weather compensation is now possible with Ultracom and Flexicom system and open vent boilers and with Climapro or Climastat controls.
• Lower central heating flow temperatures associated with intelligent control can be achieved.
• Energy costs are reduced as the boiler operates more efficiently at lower flow temperatures
• Improved comfort levels in the home can be achieved with room or weather compensation.
• Simple push-fit colour-coded connectors for simple and error-free wiring
The Smart Wiring Centre is designed for use instead of a standard 10-way wiring centre in standard domestic control systems and has simple push fit, colour-coded connectors for error-free wiring. Cables can be clamped into place once wiring is complete for a tidy installation.
The following connections are provided in the Smart Wiring Centre:-
• 230V power supply.
• Cylinder thermostat relay connection.
• eBus to connect to Glow-worm controls and to the eBus terminals in the boiler.
• Zone valve connections for one hot water zone and one heating zone:
o 2x 2-port valves, OR
o 1x 3-port valve
